About the video
The 4% grade of Cumbres Pass gives every locomotive a struggle. Oftentimes trains need two locomotives to climb up the grade. These doubleheaders are an incredible sight, as the locomotives are still giving their all to get up the grade.
On October 19, 2019, the Cumbres & Toltec ran a tripleheaded passenger train up the grade behind DRGW C-18 315, DRGW K-27 463, and CTS K-36 488. This was the first tripleheaded train in 4 years, and the first passenger train in 18 years.
We arrived on scene before the sun had risen, and we captured all three locomotives servicing before the trip began. Then, we followed the train up the grade, shooting it as many times as possible. We finish by following the helper engines back down to Chama.
Join us for this rare event, tripleheaded steam!
