Description
One of BNSF’s main outlets from the Powder River Basin is the Sand Hills Subdivision located east of Alliance, Nebraska. This line is still busy, seeing many coal trains for the midwest and the south, plus regular manifests and the occasional stack train.
BNSF keeps its most modern coal-hauling locomotives on this line, from EMD’s SD70ACe to GE ES44AC and the newest, the ET44AC. Some of the remaining SD70MACs and MRL SD70ACes can be seen here as well.
We begin in Alliance and follow Highway 2 eastbound through the lakes and small communities of the west into the farming communities of the east. Join us as we enjoy the serenity of western and central Nebraska!
