Rotary OY Returns

Description

In 2019, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad returned rotary OY to operation, and in early 2020, the railroad began their 50th anniversary by running a charter up the 4% grade from Chama to Cumbres, clearing the line.

In this video, we see some preparations of the consist on February 28 in Chama. Then on February 29, we’re witness to 14 runbys of the 1923-built machine as we made our way from Chama to the NM/CO state line. And finally on March 1, we see the rotary finish its journey pu the 4% between Cresco and the summit at Cumbres.

See the rotary in brilliant sunshine, and on 3/1, a storm system moved in early, creating a winter wonderland as the consist moved up the hill in a light snowstorm.
