Description
Southern Pacific’s route across the Tehachapi Mountains is one of the most famous rail lines in the west. The line has a steady 2.2% grade, with stretches that are even steeper. The highlight of this line is the world-famous Tehachapi Loop, where the line makes a loop over itself.
The line has easy access and lots of trains, making it a great place to railfan. We see trains from both UP and BNSF, working hard to beat the mountain. We begin at Kern Junction in Bakersfield, and work our way up the 2.2% grade en route to Mojave Junction in Mojave where the BNSF splits.
We see some of the best scenery southern California has to offer, and at the beginning of the green season. Join us for the battle between train and nature!
