Description
The year 2016 saw many special and regular passenger train movements on American rails. Norfolk Southern was finishing their “21st Century Steam” program, UP 844 returned from a 3-year hiatus, many tourist railroads had great years, Amtrak continued rolling along its many routes, and more!
In this program, we’ll take a look at some special passenger moves on BNSF’s Front Range Subdivision north of Denver. We’ll follow N&W 611 as it makes trips between Lynchburg, VA, and Asheville, NC. We see some runbys of Amtrak’s California Zephyr on the Moffat Route. We rode the Cumbres & Toltec and the Grand Canyon Railway, and were able to get some railfan shots in, too. We’ll catch 844’s test runs before the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days trip, as well as the CFD trip itself, and the deadhead return trip to Cheyenne, and last we witness a rare meet between Amtrak’s California Zephyr and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus train!
