Description
The Orin Line was a joint venture between the Burlington Northern and the Chicago North Western in central Wyoming to haul coal. Constructed in the late 1970s, the line has seen huge growth and many changes since then, becoming a mega-line.
Traffic is down on the Orin Line, but it’s still busy enough that it’s an enjoyable place to watch trains. We start at the east end of the line and work our way to Donkey Creek near Gillette, seeing the usual Union Pacific and BNSF trains, and some foreign power.
We see some of the mines up close, and some mining equipment used to power the country.
